A coach is someone who provides guidance and helps them reach their full potential. Coach and student are equals working in partnership. Coach does not require direct experience of student&#8217;s role. Mentor has more experience than student and shares it with more junior or inexperienced employee.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>The Ten Principles of Coaching <\/strong><em>(Merlevede and Bridoux 2004)<\/em><\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Be non-judgmental.<\/li>\n<li>Be non-critical.<\/li>\n<li>Believe that people have all the answers to their problems within them.<\/li>\n<li>Respect a person\u2019s confidentiality.<\/li>\n<li>Be positive and believe that there are always solutions to issues.<\/li>\n<li>Pay attention to recognising and pointing out strengths and building and maintaining self-esteem.<\/li>\n<li>Challenge individuals to move beyond their comfort zone.<\/li>\n<li>Break down big goals into manageable steps.<\/li>\n<li>Believe that self-knowledge improves performance.<\/li>\n<li>Hold a genuine willingness to learn from the people you coach.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center\">GROW template for coaching conversation<\/h3>\n<table width=\"662\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"662\"><strong>Goal<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"662\">What are your ideal outcomes?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Who are the key people in your network of support?<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"662\"><strong>Reality<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"662\">How will we measure success?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>How will you stay self-aware and mindful when things get busy?<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"662\"><strong>Options<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"662\">Tell me about a time when the problem happened and you were able to get to grips with it better.
