Update 3

Since writing the last blog post, I have finalised the staff questionnaire and nine diamond nine for learners. I know that my enquiry will not be over by the time of the final submission for the purposes of this course, and that’s ok. I have allowed myself to not feel pressure to be ‘finish’ and to remember that the impact on the learners and staff is the important part, not the final outcome for our learning festival in June. In fact, I feel that this is an issue that I will revisit and revise each year to ensure the best for my learners and the whole school community.

Questionnaires will be sent out to all the schools in my learning community this week and results will be collated. From that data, I will make an action plan for staff development for each participating school, perhaps even offering different CPD opportunities across the learning community. If you fancy a sneak peek it, you can be accessed here.

Pupil diamond nines and word cloud activities will be implanted over the next few weeks. I am also finalising the plans for our eTwinning Picnic project with teachers in the UK and in Europe. Exciting times ahead…..

Oh and I had a small win – parents night is fast approaching in one of my schools and teachers for the first time didn’t need a prompt to order interpreters to ensure our bilingual families get the best from their meeting. Progess!

  1. Hi Claire,

It is nice to read you are accepting the fact that you will not ‘finish’ during the allocated time. You are right the recognise that the impact of whatever changes you are making takes priority. I am currently working through that process, as I know that I would like to have a nicely completed set of results in a box, but that is not always the reality of teaching. My situation is different, in that I will be able to more easily draw a line under what I have done with this group of children, but I too hope this process will continue to influence my teaching practice into next session and beyond.

Good to see you back, and congratulations on the new post.

  2. Absolutely, Claire – your enquiry can still be in progress when it’s time to reflect on what has happened so far. Also, remember to keep your enquiry manageable. You don’t need to include all aspects of your EAL plan in your enquiry (and it certainly makes sense not to). You can just choose one small aspect to focus on more carefully and put under the spotlight!

  3. Hi Claire,
Very interesting enquiry, I am looking forward to reading more in the coming months. Could you let me know a little more about “pupil diamond nines” please? this sounds engaging. I am very happy to hear about the progress you are making and I myself also feel that there will be no “finish” to my enquiry as I am focusing on using the target language (French/Spanish) as the main form of communication in my classroom. This will be something that I will continue to build on and hopefully eliminate some of the fears for pupils as they are often very “scared” to use the language in front of their peers.
