\"IMG_0595\"<\/a>Over the last 2 weeks Angela\u2019s investigation of forces has moved from water force, to the force air can generate when it moves.\u00a0 This came about as a result of the children using water blasters in the garden \u2013 McKenna noticed that if you skooshed the blaster without water in it, a blast of air came out.\u00a0 We found that we could also move things using air force!\u00a0 We did experiments in the water tray with boats, using our breath to blow them along, fans to move them and hairdryers to make them go really, really fast.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday Angela set up an exciting experiment to have some fun with air power \u2013 rocket balloons!!! We tried to blow up balloons but it was really hard \u2013 the rubber kept pushing the air out again.<\/p>\n

Angela had a solution to this.\u00a0 She brought in a balloon pump which we all had a look at- it has a plunger which can squash the air so it moves in a big puff, into the balloon.\u00a0 We all tried it on our hands to feel the pressure of the air.<\/p>\n

The balloon pump made it much easier to put air into the balloons.<\/p>\n

We tried letting the balloons go, once we had blown them up.<\/p>\n

\u201cSome balloons go high, some balloons go low and some balloons go medium!\u201d said Hamish\"IMG_0584\"<\/a><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We used string across the playground to make 4 race tracks for the balloons to race on.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wonder what will happen?\u201d asked Angela.\u00a0 \u201cNot sure!\u201d said Nina.\u00a0 Hollie said, \u201cIt will go along the string!\u201d<\/p>\n

We cellotaped the balloons onto straws to begin our race.\u00a0 At first, the wind kept blowing the balloons back.\u00a0 We changed which end of the string we used and this was good as the balloons then moved along the strings really well. We found the smaller balloons didn\u2019t go as far as the big ones.\u00a0 Anna said,\u201d You put the balloons on string.\u00a0 Mine\u2019s went to the end.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hamish said, \u201cHamish\u2019s one go round and round like a circle- then to the finish line.\u00a0 Anna\u2019s goed to the end- my one is slowly, in circles \u2013 Anna\u2019s one very fast!\u201d<\/p>\n

Ava said, \u201cAir made the balloons move \u2013 my balloon won the race!\u201d<\/p>\n

Amelia said, \u201cThe air goes into the balloon from the pumper.\u00a0 The air makes the balloon go across the string.\u00a0 It falls down when there is no air left in the balloon.!\u201d<\/p>\n

Stewart realised that the bigger balloons went further:\u00a0 \u201cYou put air in the bottom to make it go across the string.\u00a0 My balloon went the furthest because it was the biggest \u2013 it had most air in it!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe air made my balloon fly across the string!\u201d said McKenna<\/p>\n

We had great fun with the balloon race and the children had the idea that next we could make things to stick on the straws and use fans to race them along the strings.\u00a0 We are going to try this next week!\"IMG_0597\"<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
