{"id":236,"date":"2016-02-24T16:48:40","date_gmt":"2016-02-24T16:48:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/glowblogs\/milngavienursery\/?p=236"},"modified":"2016-02-24T16:48:40","modified_gmt":"2016-02-24T16:48:40","slug":"what-the-tesco-grant-money-means-to-our-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/glowblogs\/milngavienursery\/2016\/02\/24\/what-the-tesco-grant-money-means-to-our-project\/","title":{"rendered":"What the Tesco grant money means to our project"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/glowblogs\/milngavienursery\/files\/2016\/02\/GetImage-1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-237 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/glowblogs\/milngavienursery\/files\/2016\/02\/GetImage-1-300x146.png\" alt=\"GetImage (1)\" width=\"300\" height=\"146\" \/><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><u>MILNGAVIE NURSERY AND PRIMARY ORCHARD PROJECT<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Our Basic Vision-<\/u><\/strong> achievable with \u00a38,000<\/p>\n<p>To transform waste ground and create something unique and individual which provides almost unlimited outdoor learning experiences- full of fruit trees and bushes.\u00a0 To provide a natural, safe, outdoor environment for our children to play and learn in- a space which can help our upper school children to achieve their John Muir award.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Encouraging \u00a0Biodiversity<\/u> &#8211;<\/strong>achievable with \u00a310,000<\/p>\n<p>With the additional \u00a32K instead of the fruit trees we see in the shops, we can put in heritage, West Coast of Scotland varieties of trees and bushes to show the children that not all apples are round and red. \u00a0A poly tunnel will help us protect plants from the worst of \u00a0weather and allow us to grow even in a cold summer.\u00a0 We will also be able to afford an orchard expert to provide class workshops so the pupils are involved in the process of choosing the correct plants for our space.\u00a0 We will even be able to provide the habitat for 5 hives of honey bees and bird, bat and hedgehog houses.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Bringing the community along with us\u00a0 &#8211;<\/u><\/strong>achievable with \u00a312,000<\/p>\n<p>The final \u00a32k allows us to make this a welcoming space for the community- with a welcoming gate,an avenue of beautiful\u00a0 espalier \u00a0fruit trees , benches for picnics and botanical signage throughout.\u00a0 We will also put in an awning and decking area to fully connect the learning from the garden, the nursery and the orchard.\u00a0 The final piece of funding would allow us to purchase an apple press and pruning equipment to enjoy harvest and maintain it for years to come.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>PLEASE VOTE FOR US AND ASK EVERYONE YOU KNOW TO VISIT TESCO AND GIVE US THEIR VOTE!
