Almost all children report that they are well cared for and enjoy being at school. Children at the primary stages are highly engaged in their learning. This is particularly evident as they respond to the challenges of their topics. Across the school, children are confident, polite and very well-behaved. Children in the nursery class learn through a range of engaging play activities. They particularly enjoy their learning in the outdoor area. Children talk to staff about what they would like to learn and staff take account of children’s interests. For example, an evolving interest in aeroplanes was fostered well by staff to stimulate and involve children in rich learning experiences.

In the nursery class, children are making very good progress in developing their literacy and numeracy skills. They listen well to each other and follow simple instructions. Older children attempt to write their own name and a few made their own books about the lifecycle of a butterfly. Most children are developing their early 2 number skills well in their play. They demonstrate a keen interest in big numbers as they play games with staff. Children counted and recorded the different creatures that live in their nursery garden. We have asked staff to continue to develop children’s skills in real-life activities such as this.

You can read the complete HMI Report, published in August 2015, here.

Read the article in the Milngavie Herald here.

The strong report made the following general observations relating to the nursery education offered to our children: Children in the nursery class and at the primary stages are happy, settled and enjoy positive relationships with staff and each other.
