Being a christian I have had the unique opportunity to help with several groups for young children and be a leader at the Christian Youth Camp in Shetland. I have been apart of the children’s group at my church for many years. First having gone along from a young age and then later helping out at it. Through this I have gotten to know children of different ages and from a range of different backgrounds. I have seen the difference that someone can make in someone’s life, which is one of the reasons that I have chosen to become a teacher.

For the past two years I have helped out for two weeks at the Shetland Christian Youth Camp. Helping to teach campers about God and engaging them in a range of different activities; such as rounders, sand castle competitions and human table football. It was an unforgettable experience that has given me some vital skills as a teacher.

Another reason I decided to become a teacher was as a result of the work experience that I did in a local primary school. In the short time I was there each week I really discovered a passion for teaching. The pleasure of seeing children in their educational development is thrilling and their sense of accomplishment makes the classroom environment an exceptional thing.

Finally, I would have to say that my mum is a huge inspiration. She is a high school teacher and the support she gives to her pupils, and to me, has inspired me to want to do the same.
