Recently I have been producing some Fact Sheets to encourage lecturers to use the SMART podiums and boards that are installed in some lecture theatres/classrooms.

As part of this process I came across some useful short videos that SMART have created.

This is the first one:

I am interested to see the many blogs that are already being
used actively for learning and teaching in the curriculum.

A couple I have noticed are:
STEM and Education Scotland Learning Blog

I also first heard of the 1+2 Factor and the recently
launched competition through this Blogging Bootcamp
exercise and passed on the information to colleagues.

I can see that blogging would be easier if I had a group involved who could all contribute ideas.

It would also make more sense if it had a particular topic or theme.

I like the ease of posting but am not sure if I will use this to disseminate information as new postings take over from old and it seems to be tricky to find previous information.

I’m still learning though and will keep trying ! 🙂

Students, staff and researchers need to prepare posters from time to time and we provide workshops on this.

I attended one yesterday and it was interesting to be made aware of what should be considered even before starting in order to make the poster eye-catching and communicate what you aim to.

The facilities available in PowerPoint make it an easy tool to use for this purpose.

Setting up the size at the start, using grids and guides and zooming in helps for getting the layout right.

Its best to keep it simple and concise, use easy-to-read text and attractive images and look at the flow and balance of the overall poster.

The art display is changed every so often in the reception area of the MacRobert Building.

I heard about the DoInk website last week and saw a demonstration of the Green Screen part being used to make a head teacher look as if he was in a setting completely different from school 😉

It looks like there are useful tutorials and documents on this site about Animation and Green Screen.

Monday evening saw the School of Education
(University of Aberdeen) hosting TeachMeet along with
Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire and Education Scotland.

It was a very enjoyable and informative event with much sharing of knowledge and ideas of using Technology in Learning and Teaching.
