I am currently preparing for my 4 week block placement. Although I aim to improve all aspects of my teaching, I have chosen 3 specific goals that I will concentrate on.

I WANT TO IMPROVE AND DEVELOP POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR STRATEGIES: SPR 3.2

I feel that having different positive behaviour strategies will improve my ability of controlling the class and will show the level of authority I have. This can be vital for improving children’s learning by increasing motivation and forming positive relationships within the classroom. I can achieve this by observing my class teacher and undertaking in academic reading.  I hope that by using existing strategies that I have witnessed and by developing my own, I can create a positive ethos within the class, which will lead to less disruptions to learning.

I WANT TO DEVELOP MY AUTHORITY IN THE CLASS AND IMPROVE MY CLASSROOM PRESENCE: SPR 3.2

It is always going to be a challenge to stamp my authority on a class as the pupils will be used to one teacher. From day one, I will have to show that I have the power in the class and I feel that this is one aspect that I have to work on. Improving my authority will build my confidence. It will also enable strong relationships to be formed with the class and allow me to become more successful in the teaching profession. It will also obviously have a positive impact on children and their learning.  I can achieve this by reading more about classroom presence and how to improve it.

I WANT TO BE ABLE TO CREATE LESSONS THAT SHOW AN UNDERSTANDING OF THE CURRICULUM AND ALL OF THE CURRICULAR AREAS: SPR 1.2

Providing effective lessons is essential. This will allow children to learn successfully in all of the curricular areas. I can achieve this by researching and reading curricular documents such as principles and practices and benchmarks. I can also expand my knowledge by using academic reading to help me.
