Although it is important to identify where we are now, it is not enough to stop there. We need to reflect upon how we can develop the skills where we are less confident and how we can transfer the skills in which we are confident and competent.

Activity 2

Complete the audit below, using the information from the table above.

Skills already developed How will I use these How do I know (evidence)**
Act as a leader   I will use this skill to ensure the children and young people I will be meeting and teaching during my career are engaged in their learning.  I have participated in various work experiences within nurseries and schools this has confirmed to  me that I have the ability to act as a leader as I have had to teach classes during my time learning.
Listening   I will use my listening skills to communicate and work with staff, children and parents and guardians I will meet during my career.  I am aware I have these skills as I am able to take in information people say to me and process it.
Take Risks  I will use this skill to be able to adapt during my career. It is important to have this skill as not every child learns in the same way and a plan can change during the day. It is also crucial to promote positive risk taking for children, for example, the use of cutlery or playing on a climbing frame.  I am aware I have this skill and continue to develop it due to my experiences when working with children.

** This section should be completed as you identify when/where/how you have used/developed these skills.

Take Notes  I will continue to develop this skill by always revising my notes at home or in the library after any class I have.  I currently find it difficult to take notes during lectures, however, I do manage to take small notes and expand on them at home by reviewing powerpoints on MyDundee.
