{"id":1594,"date":"2025-05-06T17:43:53","date_gmt":"2025-05-06T16:43:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/glowblogs\/largsearlyyears\/?p=1594"},"modified":"2025-05-06T17:43:53","modified_gmt":"2025-05-06T16:43:53","slug":"uncrc-april-earth-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/glowblogs\/largsearlyyears\/2025\/05\/06\/uncrc-april-earth-day\/","title":{"rendered":"UNCRC April &#8211; Earth Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Throughout the month of April we had a focus on \u2018Earth Day\u2019 linking with the UNCRC Articles 6 \u2018The right to life, survival and development\u2019 and 24 \u2018The right to food, water, health and environment\u2019. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s2\">Some experiences we carried out to support this were:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s2\">Paperless Play &#8211; Using the iPads to create digital artwork, drawing on recycled materials such as a cardboard box or old artwork. We also used the paper bags our lunch came in, to design our own bags to use at home. Using cut outs from magazines instead of printing out pictures.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s2\">Community Posters &#8211; To raise awareness of Earth Day, some children created posters to display around the town using recycled materials. * Thanks to the following businesses and shops for letting us display these posters &#8211; Costa Largs, Haylie Stores, Samantha Kennedy Florist, David Gavins and All Hands On Earth.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s2\">Captured Creatures &#8211; To gain perspective of the impact litter has to life under the sea, we created a station filled with rubbish with sea creatures trapped inside. The children were then tasked to free the creatures and discuss why it\u2019s important to put rubbish in the bin.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s2\">Litter Pick &#8211; The children went on a litter pick adventure around the garden and campus to clean these areas free of rubbish.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full
