The Early Years Curriculum\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What is a Curriculum?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In Early Years Centres, the curriculum is everything that we do with your child that involves <\/span>teaching, learning, and assessment.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A Curriculum for Excellence is for all children <\/span>3- 18 which means it will continue through Early Years, Primary and High School for your child.\u00a0 In an Early Years Centre and primary 1 & 2 the focus will be on active play.\u00a0 This recognises that all learning for young children takes place through play and by children having the opportunity to do things that are \u2018hands on\u2019. <\/span>The Curriculum reflects what we value as a nation and what we seek for our young people.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Aims of Curriculum for Excellence are that every child and young person should know they are valued and will be supported to become a <\/span>successful learner<\/span><\/b>, an <\/span>effective contributor<\/span><\/b>, a <\/span>confident individual<\/span><\/b> and a <\/span>responsible citizen<\/span><\/b>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

These capacities should be promoted in all the experiences that are offered for your child. Staff also use Building the Ambition<\/a> as a guide to effective practice and use a range of self-evaluation tools to help make improvements in our service. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Every term we will give you an update on how we feel your child is progressing and discuss the new learning targets for your child.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 You will also have the opportunity to add any comments you may have during the meeting.\u00a0 Parents and children are also encouraged to take their child\u2019s Special Book home regularly to share their experiences.\u00a0\u00a0 This will show how your child is progressing in the Curriculum.<\/span> Just speak to your child’s keyworker to take this home.<\/span><\/p>\n
