This theme was a lot of fun, I thought the debate activity was great as not only was it good for splitting up a number of readings between groups it was interesting hearing the opposite point of view from other members of my section instead of just reading about it and not really taking it in. It relaxed the teaching and was a welcomed break.
Content wise since it was interesting discussing the pros and cons of different types of energy and new emerging energies with advanced technology. A big positive to an energy topic is that it is very hands on with countless teaching opportunities. Activities such as circuits exercises logic and problem solving skills as there are so many challenges you can give to pupils no matter their ability. Since energy is all around us knowing the basics allows pupils to understand a lot of their immediate surroundings. It is such a cross curricular topic as well as it can incorporate art through making homemade kites, anemometers and pinwheels, literacy as short stories could be written about how energy is never destroyed just passed on and where it could end up. It is an incredibly malleable topic which opens up doors to a number of different thought paths and opportunities.
