Animation part 2

26/02/19

Hi,

this week we were to put our animation plan into action. Unfortunately I missed this week too so I was on my own with this task. There are four types of animation: cut out, stop motion, pixilation and drawn. I decided to use the cut out animation style as it is the easiest form. I printed the pictures and cut out the elements I needed and stuck down the back ground (moving image eduction). As I began piecing the movements together I had to imagine how children in a group would have to work together. I had to take all roles on but if it were a group, communication would be key in making this sort of activity work and so the children would learn about listening to each other, delegation and communicating effectively, all of which are great life skills for their future. I was aware however that it was time consuming and could imagine as the teacher I would have to allow a suitable amount of time for the children to get the most out of the task after all the most exciting part would be the viewing at the end. Another downside might be that as a learning process some groups of children would be trickier to manage than others such s too many confident children causing conflict or quieter children not given chance to experience different aspects. It would then be down to me as the teacher to find a way to combat this by selecting group members or rotating roles within the group.

In relation to curriculum for excellence I decided the following experiences and learning outcomes could be achieved:

  • Science, SCN 2-20b I can report and comment on current scientific news items to develope my knowledge and understanding of topical science.
  • Health and wellbeing, HWB 2-04 I can understanding that my feelings and reactions can change depending upon what is happening within nd around me. This helps me to understand my own behaviour and the way others behave.
  • Health and wellbeing, HWB 2-45b I am aware of the need to respect personal space and boundaries and can recognise and respond appropriately to verbal and non verbal communication.

In conclusion, animation is an interesting concept to use in education. The children would gain valuable experience of digital technology, working as part of a team and being able to express their creativity in a meaningful way. This is all hugely important for a child’s emotional wellbeing and educational development.

Logging off until next week…
