Although it is important to identify where we are now, it is not enough to stop there. We need to reflect upon how we can develop the skills where we are less confident and how we can transfer the skills in which we are confident and competent.

Activity 2

Complete the audit below, using the information from the table above.

Recognition Reflection Action
Skills already developed How will I use these How do I know (evidence)**
Listening to others  Due to the inter – professional, collaborative nature of our learning at university, I will draw upon my listening skills to work positively with others to achieve shared aims in group tasks. Further, I will listen attentively to the contributions of others in lectures as to maximise learning opportunities.  I will know that I have listened well to others if feel confident that I have shaped my knowledge and understanding of topics with a multi – perspective approach – I will be able to apply my learning and experiences into wider contexts and feel comfortable in dialogue and collaboration with others in a wide range of circumstances.
Act as a leader  I will especially draw upon leadership skills during practical elements of my academic studies such as placement. I will be required to listen well to others, assign appropriately and influence the learning environment.
Take notes I will be required to take notes during teaching times at university, as well as in self study when using resources such as books and videos. I hope to better my note taking skills by working on ensuring I only note the necessary information, and do so in my own words as to ensure my understanding.

** This section should be completed as you identify when/where/how you have used/developed these skills.

Part B – Activity 1

Recognition Reflection Action
Skills not yet developed How will I develop these How do I know (evidence)**
Taking risks  I aim to better my self confidence as to feel better equipped to take more risks – doing so by building on my practical experience and understanding better how to reflect positively on failure.
debate formally and informally  Although I feel my listening skills support me in shaping strong debates, I feel that particularly in informal situations I do not always engage as actively as I am capable of due to a lack of experience in doing so as a result of my dislike of confrontation. I will develop this skill by pushing myself to get involved with debates, at times when I would likely just observe
Take notes  I will be required to take notes during teaching times at university, as well as in self study when using resources such as books and videos. I hope to better my note taking skills by working on ensuring I only note the necessary information, and do so in my own words as to ensure my understanding.
manage time  I will have to have good time management skills so that i pay appropriate attention to each area of my studies, and ensure that i am productive in the time i spend working. This skill will transfer into placement as I will need to ensure i keep on top of time whilst teaching as to get through all i intend to. I can improve my skills by using timers / study timetables.
Organise and plan  I will need to organise and plan what i study and when i do so, as to ensure i am prepared for all lectures and due dates. This will also be transferred into placement where I will be responsible for planning lessons and organising resources. I will push myself to take time to make detailed plans of studies as to get into a healthy habit of doing so.
Make presentations  I hope to improve my IT skills overall to support me doing this, as there are many applications out there, of which i am not yet familiar with, that are capable of creating presentations that are much more visually helpful than powerpoint.
