S1 CURRICULUM

S1 Curriculum

Curriculum for Excellence was introduced to raise standards, prepare our young people for a future they do not yet know and equip them for jobs of tomorrow in a fast changing world. Curriculum for Excellence aims to improve young people life chances, to nurture successful learners, confident individuals, effective contributors, and responsible citizens, building on Scotland’s reputation for great education.

Organisation of S1 Classes

All classes in S1 are organised as mixed ability classes at the start of the session. The mixed ability classes are formed by placing as wide a range of ability as possible in each class. Boys and girls receive exactly the same courses and will get the same opportunities to progress. The information comes from Primary schools and from robust and continuous information sharing.

Courses – Subject Allocation

Pupils in S1 follow a timetable which gives them a wide variety of experiences across all curricular areas. The subjects that they study are: English, Mathematics, Modern Languages, Social Subjects, Science, P.E., R.M.E., P.S.E., Technical, Home Economics, Music, I.T. & Art and Design.
