Visual Arts and Music

This week was again all about visual arts and music.  However, we were a little less practical than we have been in previous weeks.  The first workshop was art, and this week was a continuation of last weeks printing activity.  We chose our lightest print and made a black and white photocopy.  Then we spent most of the lesson drawing a continuation of our print, either from the original painting or whatever we felt like you go next.  We also watched a short video about Room 13, a designated art studio in a school in Fort William.  There were also a few books and leaflets to look at and I have attached photographs of them below.  The Boys Doodle Book is designed to encourage boys to take part in art as they are less likely to participate fully in the subject.  This is because art is seen as a feminine thing and boys see it as uncool to participate.

This weeks music class consisted of us not playing music, but creating it.  The lesson was split into two parts, the first was where we used Garage band to create 8 bars of music using the loops from the app.  The second part was where we chose an animation from moodle and using Garage band we created a soundtrack or sound effects to go along with it.  I enjoyed this activity as I have always had an interest in creating my own music but have struggled to find an application that is easy to use.  Garage band is such an application and I really enjoy using it, the only downside to it is that it is only available for apple products which I have none of.  Garage band would be a great application to use in a classroom as it is easy to use and also great fun as well.  Also, most schools nowadays have some form of iPad on which the children could use Garage band.  I have inserted a few pictures of the process of making my own music and also the finished products as well.
