Relationships for learning – Countering radicalisation and extremism
Wed, 6 May 2025, 16:00-17:30
This session will explore evidence-based, relational approaches to preventing and responding to prejudice based behaviour and extremism. We are excited to be joined by TIE who will share the new Digital Discourse Initiative which provides educators in Scotland with tools to counter the effects of online prejudice and hate and teach core critical and digital media literacy skills.

GTCS Professional Recognition Programme on Dyslexia and Inclusive Practice
Dyslexia Scotland is an accredited provider of the GTCS Professional Recognition programme in ‘Dyslexia and Inclusive Practice’.
The programme is delivered in partnership with Education Scotland. The aim of the programme is to develop accomplished expert teachers in dyslexia and inclusive practice so that they are well equipped to support learners and colleagues through the holistic identification and support process for dyslexia in Scotland.

April Updates and Resources
UNCRC skills and knowledge framework
The Children’s Rights Skills and Knowledge Framework is for individual workers who want to build or reflect on their children’s rights knowledge and take a children’s human rights approach to their practice. It will support training planners, trainers and workforce leads responsible for delivering workforce skills building. It is designed to be used alongside the Training Plan and should be understood first, before you dive into the details of planning training. It has been co-produced with workers, children, young people and their families.

Latest Report from Children and Young People’s Commissioner
Since late 2023, thousands of children and young people have told us what they think and feel about education in Scotland. This report summarises what children and young people have told us, and what needs to improve in response. The report groups the key issues into five categories:
- Culture – how does school make us feel?
- Curriculum – what we get to experience and learn
- Personalisation and support – how am I supported to learn in ways that work for me?
- Assessment and qualifications – how do I understand and show all my skills and achievements?
- Purpose – what is school for?

Truth About Youth: Our 2025 insights survey
The Young Scot Truth About Youth survey ran from September 2024 to January 2025 and received 2,590 complete responses. The survey built upon the principles established in the 2024 BIG Survey. It was designed to combine a backbone of questions which can be used in future surveys with ‘pulse’ questions on a variety of topics – asking how young people feel about key issues.
Sections focus on safety, health, religious discrimination and issues in the news, providing an overview of the key issues facing 11 to 25-year-olds in Scotland right now. Some sections were built in collaboration with partner organisations including Public Health Scotland, Children First, YouthLink Scotland, Children and Young People’s Commissioner Scotland and Scottish Government.

This toolkit builds upon the work developed and delivered by Education Scotland through their Building Racial Literacy (BRL) programme. This space was developed in response to a growing need among CLD workers and practitioners who want to deepen their understanding of racial justice and actively foster anti-racist practices.
It came about through collaboration with practitioners who have gone through the Education Scotland BRL programme who recognised the urgency of providing practical, adaptable sessions for those committed to meaningful social change. Drawing on lived experiences, research findings, and tried and tested facilitation techniques, this toolkit aims to help you create a supportive learning environment where participants can explore race, reflect on their own biases, and ultimately develop strategies for confronting racial inequities in their communities.
