{"id":138,"date":"2017-06-09T09:51:34","date_gmt":"2017-06-09T09:51:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/glowblogs\/hillheadhighenglish\/?page_id=138"},"modified":"2023-02-22T11:44:56","modified_gmt":"2023-02-22T11:44:56","slug":"assessment","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/glowblogs\/hillheadhighenglish\/senior-phase\/assessment\/","title":{"rendered":"Assessment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>Assessment in the Senior Phase: Prelim, Folio, SQA Exam &amp; internal assessments<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>Prelim + Exam for National 5 and Higher<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Paper I of the exam &#8211; Reading For U, A &amp; E &#8211; requires pupils to analyse a complex non-fiction text (an editorial style broad sheet newspaper article) and answer questions about the ideas, the writer\u2019s use of language and its impact (Understanding, Analysis and Evaluation).\u00a0 Paper II of the exam \u2013 Critical Reading \u2013 requires pupils to write one Critical Essay\u00a0 in response to an unseen question without access to the original literary text (a poem, a play, a novel or a short story studied in class) and then complete a series of Textual Analysis Questions on a Scottish Set Text ( also studied in class).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>Prelim<\/strong>\u00a0<strong> (National 5 + Higher)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Paper 1: Reading for U, A and E (30%)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">Paper 2: Critical Reading (40%)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">1 x Critical Essay; 1x Textual Analysis of a Scottish Set Text<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">For S4: May to mimic the exam experience of the SQA exam<br \/>\nFor S5: for November\/December and mimics the challenge of the SQA exam.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>Exam (National 5 + Higher)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Paper 1: Reading for U, A and E (30%)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">Paper 2: Critical Reading (40%)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">1 x Critical Essay; 1x Textual Analysis of a Scottish Set Text<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">Final SQA Exam will be in May.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>Folio (National 5 + Higher)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">The folio is 30 % of the overall\u00a0award.
