Widgets are used to add features and functionality to your site. Widget placement is dependent on themes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Classic themes<\/strong> use widgets to add content and features to areas such as sidebars and footers. Widgets are managed separately from posts and pages and can be rearranged easily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Block themes<\/strong> use blocks instead of traditional widgets, letting you build and customise template areas like headers, footers and sidebars using the same block editor as posts and pages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Blocks<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In Block themes you can use widgets like any other block. It is likely that you would use these when designing or editing templates or templates areas in the site Editor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can see the list of available widgets in the Widgets section of the Block inserter. Details of these widgets can be found on our Blocks site<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Note some widgets that are available in classic sites are not present in block themes.<\/p>\n\n\n

If you change themes your widgets and settings might not be preserved. You can drag your widgets to the Inactive Widgets section of the widgets page in your dashboard to preserve their settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This blog has just been created with a standard set of widgets: Search, Recent Posts & Recent Comments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Widgets Dashboard<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

You can access the widget dashboard from the Appearance section. You may have to show that section using the drop down disclosure arrow.<\/p>\n\n\n

On the Widget page you can see the different Widget Areas, and if the areas are opened a preview of the widgets in place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Adding Widgets<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

On the Widget page of your dashboard you add by clicking the Add Widgets + and choosing a widget. In this animation we add an Archive widget. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can adjust the widgets setting in the right hand sidebar and Update with the top right Update button.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Legacy Widget Block<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Some of the widgets in Glow blogs do not have blocks. On a classic theme these can be added by using the Legacy Widget Block.<\/p>\n\n\n

The Legacy Widget simply presents a list of widget which you can choose from:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
