Block – Classic Editors more information<\/summary>\n

At the moment, January 2023, the Classic editor is turned on by default. You can set the blog to use the block editor instead or set it up to have one or other as the default with the choice to switch. More details on the blocks page<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the future WordPress will be transitioning to the Blocks Editor, we hope to transition to defaulting to the Blocks editor but suport the classic editor while we can.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The above Gallery was created by the block editor. You add a Gallery Block. You then can add images by Drag and Drop, uploading or from your media library. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Gallery itself has settings in the toolbar for alignment and adding a caption. In the Settings sidebar you can set the number of column, change the cropping and background colour. If the Jetpack module is active the images will show in a lightbox when clicked on like the example above.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Image Galleries allow you to display a grid of photo thumbnails that link to fullsized versions. If used with the lightbox plugin the larger images will be displayed without leaving the webpage and can be browsed through easily with mouse or arrow keys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Galleries Example<\/a>s show some of the different classic gallery possibilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Create a post<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

You start by creating a post in the usual way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Put the cursor where you want the gallery to appear and click the  Add Media button<\/strong>. This will open the Insert Media Screen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Select Files<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Switch to Create Gallery [1]<\/strong> and Upload Files [2] <\/strong><\/span>then click Select Files [3]<\/strong>. Or you can drag and drop files to upload.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Select files in the standard file browser<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Clicking Select Files in the file browser will open the system file dialog. You can choose multiple images to upload. (Click once on the first image then shift click on another to select all the ones in between too<\/em>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After selecting files click Choose<\/strong> or Open<\/strong> (browser dependent).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Create a New Gallery<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

You will see progress bars on image thumbnails as they upload.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once they have finished you could add captions [1]<\/strong> to the text, or remove images for the set. Then Click Create a new gallery<\/strong> [2]<\/strong> to make the gallery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Edit Gallery<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Once you have created the gallery you can adjust the settings before inserting it in your post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When you are happy with the settings click Insert gallery <\/strong>[2]<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you select the gallery with the mouse you will see a pencil icon [1] <\/strong>and an x. Clicking the pencil icon will open the Gallery editor again, allowing you to change the settings and add images.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The post can be finished and published in the usual way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
