Think of it as the main picture that represents what your content is about &#8211; similar to how a book has a cover image or a magazine has a main photo for each article.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Featured images are sometimes called Post Thumbnails. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This image typically appears in a few important places:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>At the top of your blog post or page<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>On your homepage when showing previews of different posts<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When someone shares your post on social media<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In search results on your website<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s basically the &#8220;face&#8221; of your content that helps grab people&#8217;s attention and gives them a visual idea of what they&#8217;re about to read. You choose one main image to be the featured image when you&#8217;re creating your post, and WordPress will automatically use it in all these different places.<\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed wp-block-embed-youtube is-type-video is-provider-youtube epyt-figure\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\"><div class=\"epyt-video-wrapper\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\"  id=\"_ytid_75365\"  width=\"474\" height=\"266\"  data-origwidth=\"474\" data-origheight=\"266\"  data-relstop=\"1\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/GyhWuTv9fgs?enablejsapi=1&#038;autoplay=0&#038;cc_load_policy=0&#038;cc_lang_pref=&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;loop=0&#038;rel=0&#038;fs=1&#038;playsinline=0&#038;autohide=2&#038;theme=dark&#038;color=red&#038;controls=1&#038;\" class=\"__youtube_prefs__  no-lazyload\" title=\"YouTube player\"  allow=\"fullscreen; accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen data-no-lazy=\"1\" data-skipgform_ajax_framebjll=\"\"><\/iframe><\/div><\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n<p>Adding A features image is not much different than adding another image.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here&#8217;s how to add a featured image in both WordPress editors:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Classic Editor:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Look on the right side of your screen for a box labeled &#8220;Featured Image&#8221;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click &#8220;Set featured image&#8221;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Either upload a new image or pick one from your media library<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select &#8220;Set featured image&#8221; after choosing your photo<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Remember to save\/update your post<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Block Editor (Gutenberg):<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Look in the right sidebar (click the gear icon at the top right if you can&#8217;t see it)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Find &#8220;Featured image&#8221; in the Post settings<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click &#8220;Set featured image&#8221;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Upload or choose your image<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click &#8220;Set featured image&#8221;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Save\/update your post<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In both cases, you&#8217;ll see a preview of your featured image in the sidebar after you set it.
