Setting the context for family learning. Group activity – what is family learning and what are the characteristics of effective family learning?
What is the difference between family learning, family support – defining our terms. What is the Community Learning and Development offer about family learning?
Task for Session 2 – audit of how we are working with families school, setting and reading of relevant documentation.

Knowing your community
Understanding the barriers to participation including the Poverty Related Attainment Gap. Raising awareness about who is in your community. Using data to know your community.
Task for Session 3 – expand mapping and scoping survey in your setting.

Developing a Family Learning Programme
Bringing together information from your investigation, leading to developing programme. Ways to engage with families examined. Engaging with the Parents and Families Toolkit. PEF bespoke programmes – sharing practice that has high impact. How do we measure and find evidence?
Task for Session 4 – research of interest to you or the needs of your setting/school informed by your audit.

Measuring the Impact of Family Learning
This session will seek to enhance understanding of the impact of collaborative family learning practice through utilising transformation evaluation – the reflective narrative of children, young people, parents/carers and practitioners expressed in their own words.
