Missing people require a proportionate and consistent partnership approach to quickly locate and support them and prevent further missing episodes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">It is therefore important for us all to be informed about Missing and for some of us to be skilled and have enhanced training if we work with an at-risk group.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">To underpin our multiagency commitment to good quality responses to Missing we have developed and agreed a protocol in Forth Valley. This protocol is designed for the use of all practitioners who are involved in the prevention, response, support and protection of persons who go missing or are at risk of going missing.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">&#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/glowblogs\/public\/fvpp\/uploads\/sites\/9924\/2024\/12\/04100145\/Forth-Valley-Missing-Persons-Protocol-14112024.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Forth Valley Missing Persons Protocol<\/a><br \/>\n&#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.missingpeople.org.uk\/for-professionals\/commission-us-professional-specialist-services\/welcome-to-the-national-missing-persons-framework-toolkit-for-professionals-in-scotland?_gl=1*ll85xw*_up*MQ..*_ga*MjAwNTc4MDY2Ny4xNzMzMzk3NDE2*_ga_R04F2M84F3*MTczMzM5NzQxNC4xLjEuMTczMzM5NzQyMi4wLjAuMA..\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">National Missing Persons Framework Toolkit for Professionals in Scotland<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong><big>RETURN DISCUSSIONS<\/big><br \/>\n<\/strong>The National Missing Person Framework and good practice encourages the returned person to be given a choice as to who they would like to complete their Return Discussion, with the aim of increasing the chances of engagement, identifying triggers and preventing further missing episodes. Where possible, the Return Discussion will be undertaken by a person chosen by the missing person and likely to be someone who has a pre-existing relationship with the missing person, a \u201ctrusted adult\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The purpose of the return discussion is to:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify\">\n<li>Support the individual who has gone missing and identify the underlying causes so that these can be addressed;<\/li>\n<li>Provide an opportunity for them to talk about the circumstances that prompted them to go missing;<\/li>\n<li>Provide an opportunity for them to talk about their experience while missing and their feelings following their return;<\/li>\n<li>Use relevant information gathered to help prevent further missing episodes by;<\/li>\n<li>Identify safeguarding concerns and opportunities for further support;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">We all have a responsibility to ensure we are familiar with the return discussion guidance, process and tools and confident to carry this work out if the missing person would like us to.<br \/>\nA return discussion flowchart and the return discussion form are available below;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">&#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/glowblogs\/public\/fvpp\/uploads\/sites\/9924\/2025\/02\/06143602\/RETURN-DISCUSSION-PROCESS-FLOWCHART.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Return Discussion Flowchart<\/a><br \/>\n&#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/glowblogs\/public\/fvpp\/uploads\/sites\/9924\/2025\/02\/06143745\/Missing-Person-Return-Discussion-Form.docx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Missing Person Return Discussion Form<\/a><br \/>\n&#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/glowblogs\/public\/fvpp\/uploads\/sites\/9924\/2025\/03\/21153222\/Clacks-Respect-Guidance-Dec-2024.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Clacks Respect Guidance &#8211; Dec 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Operational Groups<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Police Scotland via the Missing Person coordinator will usually identify individuals for discussion, based on:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Three Missing Person Reports in 30 days, or<\/li>\n<li>Individuals assessed as high risk or highly vulnerable.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Return discussions will play an important role in gathering vital information to prevent missing persons episodes. Return Discussion should be facilitated where possible, by the most relevant agency\/person within 72 hours.<\/p>\n<p>Please note that all return discussions should be returned to Police Scotland to this email address: <a href=\"mailto:ForthValleyFalkirkEngineRoom@scotland.police.uk\">ForthValleyFalkirkEngineRoom@scotland.police.uk<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Any agency can and should also nominate individuals for discussion. Given that they can hold additional context that other agencies may not be aware of.
