Career Education Standard
This has been developed with key partners in direct response to the recommendation set out in the final report of the Commission for Developing Scotland’s Young Workforce “Education Working For All”. It builds on advice and guidance in Curriculum for Excellence and in particular Building the Curriculum 4: skills for learning, skills for life and skills for work. The standard sets out:
- entitlements for children and young people (3-18); and
- expectations of key partners to support the implementation of the standard.
The standard, when implemented, aims to better prepare children and young people for the world of work.

Work Placements Standard
The content and design of this new standard has been shaped by young people, employers, parents, schools and local authorities with the document setting out clear expectations for these core groups.
The Standard sets out these expectations into 3 phases for each key group:
- In advance of a placement
- During a placement
- After a placement.
The implantation of the standard will enhance the experiences of young people when involved in work-based learning.
