Scotland’s Enterprising Schools at Global Entrepreneurship Week Scottish Launch

Scotland’s Enterprising Schools is proud to announce that it will be part of Young Enterprise Scotland’s Global Entrepreneurship Week event with Angela Constance MSP speaking about the project on the day.

Young Enterprise Scotland has announced plans for a one-off event offering West Lothian School and college students the chance to pick up business tips from local experts. The event will take place on Monday 16th November as part of celebrations for Global Entrepreneurship Week, which this year runs from 16 – 22 November.

Young Enterprise Scotland which has been a Global Entrepreneurship Week partner for 3 years, hopes that the event will inspire young people to become more entrepreneurial and to MAKE IT HAPPEN. It will form part of a week of global activities that highlight and celebrate entrepreneurship as well as offering practical support to those who are interested in setting up their own business or developing their business networks.

“Engaging students in Global Entrepreneurship Week is a great way to encourage young people to MAKE IT HAPPEN” says Geoff Leask, Chief Executive of Young Enterprise Scotland who are leading on the organisation of the Scottish launch for the third year. “We could not manage this without the support of the Scottish Government, West Lothian College, local schools, the Prince’s Trust Scotland and the other partners involved” continues Leask.

Speaking ahead of the event Angela Constance MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Education and Lifelong Learning said “I am delighted to be a part of the Scottish launch of Global Entrepreneurship Week. Young people are full of creativity and energy, key qualities which our nation needs to thrive. This is why Scotland’s Enterprising Schools was created and I’m proud that this government supports and encourages enterprise in schools. Scotland’s schools, colleges and universities have a crucial role in driving this ambition and helping our young people to realise their entrepreneurial potential.

“All the evidence suggests that when young people are encouraged to have a ‘CAN DO’ approach to be enterprising at school, it can have a life changing effect. Our Scotland CAN DO initiative promotes an education system with entrepreneurship and innovation at its core. I hope it will really boost efforts to get enterprise at the very heart of the curriculum and I’m pleased that Young Enterprise Scotland is a great supporter of Scotland CAN DO.”

Andrew Devenport, Chief Executive of Youth Business International, the organisation that coordinates Global Entrepreneurship Week UK, comments:

“Global Entrepreneurship Week is celebrated in over 140 countries and provides practical support and encouragement to millions of people. This year, the theme for Global Entrepreneurship Week in the UK is Make it Happen, giving people the perfect opportunity to take action on their entrepreneurial ideas. We hope you find ways to #GEWmakeit!”
