About the organisation

WeAreTheFuture is a global youth entrepreneurship organisation, which organises global summits across the world to inspire and connect entrepreneurs. In 2014, WeAreTheFuture created the Take Action programme to encourage more young people in education to consider entrepreneurship as a career path and develop enterprise skills. Take Action is backed by The Scottish Government, The Royal Bank of Scotland, UnLtd and O2.

Enterprise activity in schools

Throughout the course of 2014 WeAreTheFuture have piloted and adapted the programme based on feedback from schools and participating students.

Take Action has evolved into an 8-12 week programme working with schools to develop a product or service that they then exhibit at a Take Action event.

At present, WeAreTheFuture, in partnership with Caledonian MacBrayne, is running an inter school competition in the Highlands and Islands area, culminating with the finals being held at a Take Action event in Oban on the 7th October. The competition consists of pupils in S1 – S4 coming up with an idea for a product or service that will benefit their local community. Four groups will be selected attend the final of the competition, and will give a 5-minute presentation about their idea. The winning entrant will receive £500 of in kind services for their school.

In 2015 we also plan to commit spaces to young people at our annual Startup Summit event held in Edinburgh and provide an opportunity for the schools to exhibit their businesses at the event.

Testimonials

Notre Dame High School, Glasgow

“Team working skills had improved, as they had to work with others to ensure success. Commitment to the enterprise activity was essential – the group very quickly realised that they had to devote more time than initially planned. Planning and communication skills had improved over the course of the project.

Confidence had improved greatly within the group – they were all very proud of their achievements.

Both Neha and Cara who attended the conference were inspired – they now feel they would have the confidence to turn their dreams into reality and would consider starting a business in the future. Many of the other girls in the class also thought this would now be an option as they were really pleased with the fashion show.”
