  1. Thanks for Alan and Hugh for providing a Scottish Government perspective.
Thanks also to Graham Ogilvie for your endorsement about the quality of discussions you listened to and illustrated for us.

  2. Enjoyed the event. Some good discussions around the table but I left feeling I still have a lot of learning to do, so that I can join all the bits up.

    1. Thanks janet. At this stage where things around DYW develop quite rapidly at times, providing the opportunity to learn from each other is one of the key intentions behind the Learning Event series. We will keep you posted on the next event.

  3. Just a thought – at end of day suggestion wasted to include approach to DYW in primary in a 3-18 piece.

If we did this would conversation naturally drift towards senior phase expectations / needs – conversations seemed to do this over the day in Aberdeen.

Should primary approach be given own slot in the programme?

    1. Thank you for this comment, Bob. The we will consider picking up the primary persective since this is one of the core messages around the new career education standard.

    2. Bob. We can talk some more about the request for focus on primary. We are working with partners to run a primary focussed event (possibly two? ) before end year. Mairi is in the lead in team on this. Maybe we could get you involved in this? Joan

  4. A key challenge set and going forward was around establishing clarity out of complexity.

This field is already very “cluttered”- how we do make sure that by action activity set up with the best of intentions to progress outcomes that we do no by unintended consequence add in further layers of complexity.

    Keep it simple!

  5. I came away energised after the event yesterday and was inspired by the quality of the dialogue and the willingness across the country to make important changes. Looking forward to reflecting on the evaluation forms and the comments recorded.

  6. Hi there
what a dynamic group at our table. The Highlands and Islands table…a large group as we joined up tables 16 & 17 to plan our future learning and discuss what work has been done to date. There is much to celebrate and take forward in the Highlands & Islands from Perth & Kinross up to Shetland. Despite the rural challenges of distance and transport many innovative practices and partnerships are taking place across these areas. We are now going to come together for future meetings with the DYW strategic lead at UHI to see how we can plan strategically as a large group. Eilean Siar has embraced DYW at a whole authority level with a two day August in-service for all secondary staff and primary schools. Led by the Director of Education and National Partners there is a whole hearted commitment to the DYW agenda and embedding the Careers Standard across the curriculum 3-18. Iain Stewart is happy to share this practice, including also using local labour market intelligence to structure the curriculum, with our group so part of our learning is to forge stronger links between education and economic development in all our authorities if this is not in place. Will keep you posted on how we plan our next steps but the passion and commitment is in place
