{"id":17434,"date":"2018-06-21T17:25:42","date_gmt":"2018-06-21T16:25:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/glowblogs\/eslb\/?p=17434"},"modified":"2018-06-21T17:25:42","modified_gmt":"2018-06-21T16:25:42","slug":"angus-stem-event-attended-by-more-than-300-people","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/glowblogs\/dyw20\/2018\/06\/21\/angus-stem-event-attended-by-more-than-300-people\/","title":{"rendered":"Angus STEM event attended by more than 300 people"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/glowblogs\/eslb\/files\/2018\/06\/use-for-STEM-Fest-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-17435 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/glowblogs\/eslb\/files\/2018\/06\/use-for-STEM-Fest-2-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri\">An event to raise aspirations towards, and interest in, STEM was enjoyed by more than 300 people at Arbroath Academy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri\">The Angus STEM Festival featured shows from Aberdeen and Dundee Science Centres, as well as Generation Science alongside interactive workshops and stalls presented by local colleges, universities and STEM employers.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri\">Organised by Raising Aspirations in Science Education (RAiSE) and Developing the Young Workforce (DYW), the<\/span> <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri\">festival also aimed to highlight the science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) career pathways available within Angus.<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri\">Jonathon Brown, the RAiSE Primary Science Development Officer, said:\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri\">\u201cIt was a wonderful day and we were incredibly pleased with the numbers attending and the enthusiasm and participation from the young people and their families.\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri\">These fun, informative sessions really help bring science to life and engage young people.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri\">Visitors were surveyed, with more than 90% reporting that the festival made them more interested in a future career in STEM and that it had increased their interest in STEM subjects.\u00a0 All of those questioned enjoyed the event.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri\">RAiSE is a four-year pilot programme to increase the confidence and skills of teachers to teach effective and engaging primary science. More than 40 schools in Angus are engaged in the programme.
