\"dyw-woodfarm-hs\"<\/a>Woodfarm High School in East Renfrewshire has developed a holistic approach to career education\u00a0for learners at all levels in order to\u00a0equip\u00a0them with the necessary skills to fully realise their aspirations in life.<\/p>\n

Using the Career Education Standard\u00a0(CES) \u00a0an audit had been undertaken to embed the entitlements for young people into the curriculum.\u00a0 In partnership with employers and parents, learners are fully engaged in maximising \u00a0opportunities to enhance career education\u00a0across all aspects of learning.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0This includes initiatives such as a S6 Career Ambassadors programme, business breakfasts, \u00a0presentations to challenge career stereotypes, an S2 STEM project and a\u00a0‘Skills week’\u00a0across all subjects.<\/p>\n

In reflection of the Work Placements Standard the school has developed a flexible, fully integrated\u00a0model that\u00a0provides work-based learning opportunities for learners \u00a0at various stages of their development.<\/p>\n

Integral to the new approach\u00a0at the school is the engagement of staff.\u00a0\u00a0CLPL opportunities are on offer during inset days and collegiate time and a ‘Teaching and Learning Community’ has been established to collaborate with employers in order\u00a0to coordinate and enhance work-based learning opportunities.<\/p>\n

Woodfarm HS has also developed a ‘Employer Partnership’ database in\u00a0connection with\u00a0the local authority and East Renfrewshire’s Chamber of Commerce in order to enhance the quality and scope of experiences for learners around the world of work.\u00a0 As a result young people have the opportunity to visit local business, engage in work shadowing and\u00a0extended work placements, practice interview skills\u00a0and CV writing and find out about careers, including Modern Apprenticeships,\u00a0through career evenings, talks, 1-1 sessions and enterprise activities.<\/p>\n
