Mathematics develops problem-solving abilities, logical thinking, and numeracy &#8211; key skills that underpin lifelong learning and are essential for a range of careers, from finance to engineering. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"paragraph_1ksEeitPS46\"><em>Mathematics plays an important role in areas such as science or technologies and is vital to research and development in fields such as engineering, computing science, medicine and finance. Learning mathematics gives children and young people <strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-cyan-blue-color\">access to the wider curriculum<\/span><\/strong> and the opportunity to pursue further studies and interests.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"paragraph_EdsEeidPS46\"><em>Being numerate helps us to <strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-cyan-blue-color\">function responsibly in everyday life<\/span><\/strong> and <strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-cyan-blue-color\">contribute effectively to society<\/span><\/strong>. It increases our opportunities within the world of work and establishes foundations which can be built upon through lifelong learning. Together, these subjects prepare learners to excel in the modern workforce while fostering the four capacities of Curriculum for Excellence: successful learners, confident individuals, responsible
