{"id":48,"date":"2026-09-21T14:13:03","date_gmt":"2026-09-21T13:13:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/glowblogs\/digitallearningteachingandassessment\/?p=48"},"modified":"2026-09-29T16:22:25","modified_gmt":"2026-09-29T15:22:25","slug":"accessibility","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/glowblogs\/digitallearningteachingandassessment\/2026\/09\/21\/accessibility\/","title":{"rendered":"Accessibility"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">About accessibility<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.scot\/policies\/girfec\/\"><strong>Getting it right for every child (GIRFEC) <\/strong><\/a>is Scotland\u2019s long standing, national commitment to provide all children, young people and their families with the right support at the right time, so that every child and young person can reach their full potential.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ds_page-header__title\"><strong>The Scottish Government (SG)&#8217;s <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.scotland.gov.uk\/Publications\/2014\/10\/8011\">Statutory Guidance<\/a>\u00a0provides advice on how education authorities and schools can meet obligations to improve access to education required under the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.legislation.gov.uk\/asp\/2002\/12\/pdfs\/asp_20020012_en.pdf\">Equality Act and the Education (Disability Strategies and Pupils\u2019 Educational Records) (Scotland) Act 2002<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Appendix D of the guidance contains a checklist for digital support provided for learners who require it \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.scot\/publications\/planning-improvements-disabled-pupils-access-education-guidance-education-authorities-independent\/pages\/11\/\">view the SG guidance checklist with this link<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>How Good Is Our School (HGIOS) 4th Edition (HMIe)<\/strong> section 2.4 provides the following illustrations of highly effective practice for personalised support:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Both universal and targeted learning and support is embedded and is having a positive impact on children\u2019s progression with their learning<\/li>\n<li>Tasks, activities and resources are effectively differentiated and provide appropriate pace and challenge for all learners<\/li>\n<li>There is a strong ethos across the school to minimise the impact of potential barriers to learning<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Examples and resources<\/h3>\n<p><strong>CALL Scotland<\/strong> help children and young people across Scotland to overcome disability and barriers to learning created by their environment, and to fulfil their potential.
