Digital technology is used to store, process and share <\/span>computer data<\/span><\/b> about almost all aspects of our lives and society. This is underpinned by computer technology, including <\/span>hardware, software and networks<\/span><\/b>. It is essential that these systems and their data should be <\/span>secured<\/span><\/b> to protect them, and us, from cyber threats.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Essential digital skills<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Being <\/span>able to use<\/span><\/b> digital technology increases opportunities to <\/span>engage in society<\/span><\/b>, including <\/span>finding information<\/span><\/b>, accessing essential <\/span>services <\/span><\/b>and <\/span>communicating <\/span><\/b>with other people.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Creativity and communication<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Having access to <\/span>vast quantities of information, media and statistical data<\/span><\/b> requires skills to <\/span>navigate <\/span><\/b>but also to <\/span>scrutinise<\/span><\/b> its reliability and veracity. Digital technology provides a wide <\/span>range of media<\/span><\/b> through which to <\/span>express our thoughts, feelings and ideas<\/span><\/b> and to e<\/span>ngage with others<\/span><\/b>\u2019 self-expression. Digital technology should be considered <\/span>part of any a potential solution<\/span><\/b> when problem solving or innovative thinking.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As digital technology is increasingly embedded in <\/span>all aspects of our lives<\/span><\/b> we should consider how we engage with it and how this may <\/span>affect us and others<\/span><\/b>. The means to create, publish and communicate online <\/span>should be democratic<\/span><\/b> and of <\/span>benefit to individuals and society<\/span><\/b>. <\/span>Human rights<\/span><\/b> should be central to the design and function of these systems and services. <\/span>Lessening the environmental impact<\/span><\/b>, through manufacture and use, should be a priority in the lifecycle of technology<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
