background-repeat: no-repeat;background-position: center center;\">\n<div class=\"builder-section-content\">\n<div class=\"builder-text-row\">\n<div class=\"builder-text-column builder-text-column-1\" id=\"builder-section-text_17-column-1\">\n<div class=\"builder-text-content\">\n<h1>Independent Learning Strategies in a Digital Environment<\/h1>\n<div>\n<div data-tid=\"messageBodyContainer\">\n<div data-tid=\"messageBodyContent\">Independent learning is when pupils have the skills to set goals to plan, monitor and evaluate their own academic development, so they can manage their own motivation towards learning.<span style=\"font-size: 1.6rem;\"> Research from the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF), <a href=\"https:\/\/educationendowmentfoundation.org.uk\/education-evidence\/guidance-reports\/digital#:~:text=Using%20Digital%20Technology%20to%20Improve%20Learning%3A%20Evidence%20Review,by%20increasing%20the%20quality%20and%20quantity%20of%20\">Using Digital Technologies to Improve Learning<\/a>, identifies how technologies play a central role to build the skills required to develop self-regulated learners, providing ownership and mastery of their learning.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"builder-text-column builder-text-column-2\" id=\"builder-section-text_17-column-2\">\n<div class=\"builder-text-content\">\n<div class=\"jetpack-video-wrapper\"><iframe src='https:\/\/www.slideshare.net\/slideshow\/embed_code\/242986594' width='960' height='787' sandbox=\"allow-popups allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-presentation\" allowfullscreen webkitallowfullscreen mozallowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/section>\n<section id=\"builder-section-text_92\" class=\"builder-section-prev-text builder-section builder-section-text builder-section-next-text builder-text-columns-1\" style=\"background-size: cover; the mental process involved in knowing, understanding, and learning<\/div>\n<div>\u2022metacognition \u2013 thinking about our own learning \u2013 \u2018learning to learn\u2019<\/div>\n<div>\u2022motivation &#8211; willingness to engage our metacognitive and cognitive skills<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div><strong>The role of practitioners is to explicitly teach pupils metacognitive strategies<\/strong>, including how to plan, monitor, and evaluate their learning.\u00a0 The best available evidence EEF, <a href=\"https:\/\/educationendowmentfoundation.org.uk\/education-evidence\/teaching-learning-toolkit\/metacognition-and-self-regulation\">Metacognition and Self- Regulation<\/a> indicates that great teaching is the most important lever to improve outcomes and learner self-efficacy.\u00a0 According to the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.oecd.org\/education\/2030-project\/teaching-and-learning\/learning\/student-agency\/Student_Agency_for_2030_concept_note.pdf#:~:text=The%20concept%20of%20student%20agency%2C%20as%20understood%20in,goal%2C%20reflect%20and%20act%20responsibly%20to%20effect%20change.\">OECD Student Agency 2030 report<\/a>, <\/strong>when pupils feel in control of their own learning and can help direct what they learn, research indicates they show greater motivation to learn.\u00a0 The EEF <a href=\"https:\/\/educationendowmentfoundation.org.uk\/education-evidence\/guidance-reports\/metacognition\">seven recommendations for teaching self-regulated learning\u00a0<span class=\"amp\">&amp;<\/span>\u00a0metacognition<\/a> identifies\u00a0seven areas and \u200b<span class=\"pull-single\">\u2018<\/span>myth busts\u2019 common misconceptions teachers have about metacognition.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/impact.chartered.college\/article\/using-technology-promote-metacognition\/\"> Impact The Charter Journal of the Charter College of Teaching<\/a> identifies how using technology can promote student metacognition through thinking aloud.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>Teachers on the\u00a0 Education Scotland Teacher Leadership Programme have produced posters which explain the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/teamscel\/albums\/72157698147891720\">enquiry journey of Self- regulation and Metacognition<\/a>.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/section>\n<section id=\"builder-section-text_90\" class=\"builder-section-prev-text builder-section builder-section-text builder-section-next-text builder-text-columns-3 layout-4-8\" style=\"background-size: cover;
