It is important that adults acknowledge that it is okay to feel it and not disregard or try to suppress the feeling.<\/p>\n<p><b>\u00a0\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Name the Feeling <\/b>\u201cCan you show me how you feel?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Helping children and young people name the emotion takes away some of the unknown. This can also help them feel validated.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Be the calm <\/b>\u201cHow can I help you?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Children and young people may react in different ways to how we as adults would expect them to. If adults are in control of their reactions to their feeling; it allows children and young people to feel safer.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Provide structure <\/b>\u201cIt\u2019s time for lunch\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Where possible keep your eating, hygiene, bedtime routines the same. Have a similar<br \/>\nroutine each day.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Tell them the plan <\/b>\u201cI\u2019m working for twenty minutes then we can play cards.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Letting children and young people know what\u2019s happening next helps ease anxiety. Having a visual plan is great \u2013and can help avoid interruptions during important work phone calls. See our<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Most importantly, take care of yourself.
