{"id":1661,"date":"2025-04-03T04:27:00","date_gmt":"2025-04-03T03:27:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/glowblogs\/cices\/?p=1661"},"modified":"2025-04-02T16:29:00","modified_gmt":"2025-04-02T15:29:00","slug":"education-scotland-publishes-a-third-curriculum-improvement-cycle-discussion-paper","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/glowblogs\/cices\/2025\/04\/03\/education-scotland-publishes-a-third-curriculum-improvement-cycle-discussion-paper\/","title":{"rendered":"Education Scotland publishes a third Curriculum Improvement Cycle discussion paper"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-28f84493 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<p>Education Scotland is leading a systematic review of the Scottish curriculum called the Curriculum Improvement Cycle, to ensure it remains up to date and relevant for children and young people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:21px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>A new discussion paper, which has been developed to inform emerging work of the Curriculum Improvement Cycle in Scotland, has now been published.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:21px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/glowblogs\/public\/cices\/uploads\/sites\/10666\/2025\/04\/01103754\/020425-CIC-Working-Together-to-Make-Change-Happen-V1.0.pdf?utm_campaign=14950437_CIC%20paper%20three%20special&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_source=Education%20Scotland&amp;dm_i=LQE,8WFTX,40KDYN,113IVJ,1\">Working Together to Make Change Happen<\/a>\u2019 begins to outline how the Curriculum Improvement Cycle will work in practice. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:21px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>This follows the publication of the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/glowblogs\/cices\/2024\/12\/18\/new-curriculum-improvement-cycle-discussion-paper-background-and-a-case-for-change\/\">first discussion paper<\/a> called \u2018\u00a0Background and A Case For Change : Findings from the Pilot Curriculum Reviews 2023\/24\u2019\u00a0sets out why the work is being carried out and unpacks the pilot curriculum reviews. It also talks about evolving the technical framework and aims to inspire thinking. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:21px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/glowblogs\/cices\/2024\/12\/18\/discussion-paper-2\/\">second discussion paper<\/a> which was published in December 2024 is called \u2018Towards an Evolved Technical Framework.\u2019 This paper draws on the finding from the pilot curriculum reviews and other evidence to explain what the options might be to evolve the\u00a0Technical Framework\u00a0of Scotland\u2019s Curriculum which uses a \u2018Know-Do-Understand\u2019 model.*<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:21px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:33.33%\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/glowblogs\/public\/cices\/uploads\/sites\/10666\/2025\/04\/02155457\/CIC-discussion-papers-timeline-6-1024x1024.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1654\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/glowblogs\/public\/cices\/uploads\/sites\/10666\/2025\/04\/02155457\/CIC-discussion-papers-timeline-6-1024x1024.png 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/glowblogs\/public\/cices\/uploads\/sites\/10666\/2025\/04\/02155457\/CIC-discussion-papers-timeline-6-300x300.png 300w, https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/glowblogs\/public\/cices\/uploads\/sites\/10666\/2025\/04\/02155457\/CIC-discussion-papers-timeline-6-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/glowblogs\/public\/cices\/uploads\/sites\/10666\/2025\/04\/02155457\/CIC-discussion-papers-timeline-6-768x768.png 768w, https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/glowblogs\/public\/cices\/uploads\/sites\/10666\/2025\/04\/02155457\/CIC-discussion-papers-timeline-6.png 1260w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:21px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The new discussion paper \u2018Working Together to make Change Happen\u2019, provides an overview of the development of the Curriculum Improvement Cycle to date and shares what is currently in the scope of the Curriculum Improvement Cycle. Scotland is now almost one year into putting a process in place that will enable the curriculum to be reviewed in a planned and ongoing basis, and practitioners and partners have been involved in the design and development of this process from the start.
