We’re now seeking applications for Education Scotland Associates from across the curriculum areas to support our work in this area. The closing date is 10th November 2024.

Working as an Education Scotland Associate is an exciting and varied role that gives a national perspective in education. A further round of recruitment will take place for educators with ASN experience in the new year.

The Education Scotland Associate role recognises our commitment to increasing opportunities for the profession to be engaged in the work of the organisation. ESAs will work in a range of areas to support improvement activity across local authorities and work linked to the Curriculum Improvement Cycle (CIC) for Scotland. They make an important contribution to our programmes, drawing on their experience as educators, their specialist skills, and their educational and system knowledge.

Available positions

Early learning and childcare (ELC)

Head or depute head of establishments with experience in:

  • Early Learning and Childcare (6 posts)
  • Early Learning and Childcare with a specialism in Science (1 post)

Primary and secondary specialists

Curriculum area, subject and sector specialists will support improvement activity across local authorities and/ or work linked to the Curriculum Improvement Cycle (CIC) for Scotland.

We are seeking applications from primary and secondary curriculum area, subject and sector specialists who are currently:

  • teachers with a minimum of 5 years experience
  • principal teachers
  • faculty heads or leads

Specialist areas include:

  • Expressive Arts (up to 5 posts)
  • Gaelic (Learners) and literacy and Gàidhlig (up to 5 posts)
  • Heath and Wellbeing (up to 5 posts)
  • Literacy and English (up to 5 posts)
  • Modern Languages (up to 5 posts)
  • Numeracy and Mathematics (up to 5 posts)
  • Religious and Moral Education (up to 5 posts)
  • Sciences (up to 5 posts)
  • Project Learning (senior phase) in secondary schools (up to 2 posts)
  • Technologies (up to 5 posts)
  • Social Subjects(up to 5 posts)



Note: ESAs will work with us on an ‘as required’ basis for up to 15 days whilst keeping existing roles within a school or setting.
