{"id":42,"date":"2017-05-24T14:28:09","date_gmt":"2017-05-24T14:28:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/glowblogs\/bunsgoilghaidhligghleanndail\/?page_id=42"},"modified":"2024-11-17T17:05:18","modified_gmt":"2024-11-17T17:05:18","slug":"parent-zone","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/glowblogs\/bunsgoilghaidhligghleanndail\/parent-zone\/","title":{"rendered":"Information"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><u><strong>Adverse Weather Conditions<\/strong><\/u><\/p>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: small\">With winter upon us,\u00a0this is a timely reminder to parents and carers about Glasgow City Council&#8217;s\u00a0procedures\u00a0for closing\u00a0schools as a result of adverse weather and for communicating\u00a0that information to you.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: small\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: small\">We always do everything we can to keep schools open\u00a0because educating your children\u00a0is our priority and\u00a0we want to\u00a0minimise the impact\u00a0that\u00a0closing a school can have on everyone.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: small\">However, there are a number of factors that can lead to a school being closed, such as severe weather, building and heating issues, lack of water, transport problems and ensuring there are sufficient numbers\u00a0of staff to look after the children and young people.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: medium\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: small\">Often these problems only emerge in the morning and we are left with no option but to announce a closure at short notice, for example once we know if staff have made it to their school, or we discover burst\u00a0pipes.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: medium\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div><strong><b><span style=\"font-size: small\">We will do everything we can to make the decision as early as possible to allow parents and carers who are working to make alternative arrangements.<\/span><\/b><\/strong><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: medium\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: small\">The decision will be taken by your head teacher in consultation with the Executive Director of Education.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: small\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: small\">The council website\u00a0<a title=\"http:\/\/www.glasgow.gov.uk\/winter\" href=\"http:\/\/www.glasgow.gov.uk\/winter\">www.glasgow.gov.uk\/winter<\/a>\u00a0and local media will be\u00a0among our key\u00a0communication\u00a0channels.\u00a0Schools with text messaging facilities\u00a0will also use\u00a0these\u00a0to alert parents and carers. Individual schools will have their own methods that work best for them.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: small\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: small\">In the past when we have had bad snow, we found that social media was one of the best and fastest ways to tell parents about a closure.
