{"id":289,"date":"2021-05-10T07:12:33","date_gmt":"2021-05-10T07:12:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/glowblogs\/bowerprimaryschool\/?page_id=289"},"modified":"2021-05-10T09:21:12","modified_gmt":"2021-05-10T09:21:12","slug":"developing-young-workforce","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/glowblogs\/bowerprimaryschool\/developing-young-workforce\/","title":{"rendered":"Developing Young Workforce"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Friday 7<sup>th<\/sup> May, pupils at Bower Primary School\u00a0 held their <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/presentation\/d\/1GcU4wCL9WJjuv5ojfn-appv6-yaSkF3Wz5i_qj5NfHM\/edit#slide=id.p\">Careers Fayre 2021<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>During Term 2, pupils engaged in remote Developing Young Workforce activities focused on skill acquisition and exploration into a range of careers that exist today as well as jobs that could exist in the future.\u00a0 Pupils posed questions to various professionals and workers around the country. The response was outstanding.<\/p>\n<p>Over 20 professionals and trades people from across the country took the time to respond by email but also recorded their answers via video link enabling them to virtually appear at the Careers Fayre on the day.<\/p>\n<p>Palaeontologist, Dr Steve Brusatte, shared his expertise with learners interested in dinosaurs and Geology which went down a treat with the pupils.\u00a0 \u00a0Dr Brusatte has written over 110 scientific papers, published six books, described over 15 new species of fossil animals and worked in Brazil, Britain, China, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal, Romania and the United States. He advises and consults for the BBC&#8217;s Walking With Dinosaurs team.<\/p>\n<p>The highest capped British professional footballer in history, Steven Davis MBE, who captains Northern Ireland and plays for Scottish champions Glasgow Rangers also took the time to respond to pupils\u2019 questions and share his story for success.<\/p>\n<p>Kirstie Swain who is a Screenwriter and Executive Producer for Netflix, HBO ad Sky Atlantic shared her experience and provided tips of how to achieve ambitions of getting into film and television.<\/p>\n<p>Among others, local businesses and employees supported the event such as Ashley Ann Kitchens with expert advice from Interior Designer, Gemma Mackillop and local artist Lindsey Gallacher responded to pupils who aspire to become artists.\u00a0 Parents and staff took the time to contribute also.\u00a0 Caithness General Hospital, Wick Craft and former SubSea7 manager Willie Watt shared their success stories and the skills necessary to help in the world of work.<\/p>\n<p>Vets, Doctors, Entrepreneurs, Photographers, Barbers, Fishing Boat operatives, Stable Owners, Physiotherapists, Nurses as well as representatives from Playstation, The SSPCA and TikTok all provided the pupils with a diverse information to answer their questions to further their interest in prospective careers.<\/p>\n<p>Across the day, pupils came dressed to school as the person they\u2019d like to work as when they are older (including staff).\u00a0 Check out the photos in the link above.<\/p>\n<p>The staff team collaborated to create innovative and exciting experiences on the day and in the lead up to the event.\u00a0 Staff and pupils created a Community Caf\u00e9 and demonstrated their skills in the world of work through enterprising activities.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Friday 7th May, pupils at Bower Primary School\u00a0 held their Careers Fayre 2021.
