Although it is important to identify where we are now, it is not enough to stop there. We need to reflect upon how we can develop the skills where we are less confident and how we can transfer the skills in which we are confident and competent.

Activity 2

Complete the audit below, using the information from the table above.

Self confidence

Recognition Reflection Action
Skills already developed How will I use these How do I know (evidence)**
This attribute will be used daily in my teaching as you have to have confidence in yourself in order for the children to have confidence in you. I developed this skill when I was working with children at my job as a gymnastics coach, I had to have the confidence that what I was teaching was beneficial to the class and that all my work was correct.
Organise and plan Organisation and forward planning as a teacher is key as you want to be prepared to deliver a well thought out lesson that will benefit the children that you are teaching.  At school, I was on the events organising committee so I experienced what it was like to have to plan and organize large projects.
Manage time  It is very important to manage your time as a teacher as if you don’t your lessons will not be interesting or enjoyable for the children.  For my exams, time management was a key element of being able to achieve my desired grades. It was very important that my time was split up evenly across my subjects so that I wasn’t just doing well in one or two subjects, I was doing well in all of them.
Act as a leader  You must be able to control the class and act as a leader to them otherwise their work won’t be up to standard as they will not be listening to you because they don’t look at you as a leader.  In many group tasks and at my work, I have acted as a leader in order to make sure that the task at hand was getting done.
Listen to others  As a teacher you don’t only work with children, you also have to work with other teachers who you have to listen to and take their opinions and ideas into consideration. At school when involved in group projects I always tried my best to listen to others.

** This section should be completed as you identify when/where/how you have used/developed these skills.

Part B – Activity 1

Recognition Reflection Action
Skills not yet developed How will I develop these How do I know (evidence)**
Take risks  I don’t like being outside my comfort zone which is the first problem so for this skill to be developed I would need to push myself as sometimes the outcome can be positive.  I will try and take appropriate risks that I see as beneficial to others and myself, within group projects and my own personal work.
Making presentations I will work on my computer and technology skills so that I can create a well thought out and developed a presentation that will improve the presentation as a whole.  Watching videos online was where I started first to see how to do certain things that would improve my presentations.
Take notes In order to develop this skill, I will practice taking down short bullet points and abbreviated sentences in order to filter through and only have relevant and important information. I have already started developing these skills within lectures as I have tried to condense the amount I write and only write the important information and then revise over the powerpoints when I get home.
Debate formally and informally  In order to develop this skill I would try and talk to my peers about current affairs that we may have different opinions on.  Where I would develop this skill would be in my free time to hopefully enable myself to become more advanced with my debating skills.
