Developing the Young Workforce

What is DYW?

At Annan Academy, we want all our pupils to have the skills and qualifications they need to enter the world of work with confidence in their ability and the resilience to adapt to an ever changing environment. Annan Academy has embraced DYW and will continue to work hard to give all pupils positive opportunities for them to be successful in their career paths.

We work closely with an ever growing number of local businesses and have formed positive working relationships with both large and small employers within Annan and the surrounding area.

Career Planning Support

To support you in planning your career, along with PT’s Pupil Support, we have workers from Skills Development Scotland in school in F41(Wed) and F44(Mon to Thurs).

Helen and Ann are also available at Annan Job centre on a Tuesday(Ann) and Friday (Ann and Helen).

SDS careers advisers work in partnership with every state secondary school in Scotland, delivering career guidance to enable young people from S1-S6 to develop their Career Management Skills.

My World of Work is the award-winning online career information and advice service used by pupils throughout their time at school and beyond.

My Kid’s Career is our web service for parents and carers to help parents and carers support their children to make career decisions, guided by information on the future world of work.

What does DYW look like at Annan Academy?

As part of our Personal and Social Education SDS come to tutor groups to do sessions about career options, they also meet with all pupils in S2 thinking about options for S3/4.

Pupils will find career information in lessons as and when it is appropriate, career profiles from businesses both locally and Scotland  wide.

We also host events such as mock interviews and careers fairs; we are working closely with DYW D&G to bring more events in the future.
