My Placement Experience

My placement experience was overall a very positive one. I thoroughly enjoyed being in a classroom and interacting with both children and teachers. I was lucky enough to be able to be in with various year groups throughout the school ( Primary 1, 2, 4 and 7). It was extremely interesting to see just how varied the year groups were and the differences between each year group. It was also good to be able to see the different ways in which different teachers teach and why their teaching reciprocates good learning. I was able to take in so much from the school and learned lots about the school as a whole, children, teachers and even myself. The year group which I felt more confident in was probably p1-4. I really enjoyed being in the younger years, although I did enjoy the older year groups too but I feel I need to build my confidence with them to get the best experience in this area. All in it was something I will always remember and really showed me just what it takes to be a good teacher.

Communication in an Outside Environment

Group and Leadership

This task was to see who amongst us weee the natural leaders within the groups we had been assigned to. We were put in groups around 7/8 and each one of us brought different aspects and ideas to the group. My group worked really well together and everyone was able to voice their own ideas which came together to make our very own den. This was an extremely fun task and I felt like it helped me to come out of my shell a bit more with my classmates and helped me to gain more confidence around them too.

Explaining

One person in our group read out the sheet and explained what the challenge was and everyone had their imput and view on what they felt was the best way to complete the task of building a den which matched the criteria. In the end we were successful through our use of explaining to each other how the den was to be built and why it would match what the task was asking.

Environment

The environment I felt impacted us all in a very positive way and it was a fun experience and a change of  instead of being in a class room which is usually where we will be. Being outside really brightened up the afternoon and I felt as though everyone could really start to be themselves and I think I can say on behalf of everyone, helped us to be more comfortable in front of each other. I think this was because it was an environment where we didn’t have to be quite as professional as sitting at a desk. Although being outside held its own distractions as well. There was much more going on outside so in a way we weren’t quite as focused on the task as which we would have been in the likes of a classroom.

Negotiation

The negation part of the task for me was actually quite funny as I felt it help to break down any barriers with other people and was the part of the task which I found funny. I did find it quite difficult as it was hard to decipher who actually needed materials and who didn’t but at the most part of it I has a lot of fun.
