TRON AMBASSADORS

In 2012/13, Tron Participation embarked on an eight month
journey with five S3-S6 pupils in a project
called Tron Ambassadors. The group worked on
social media calls, tweet meets, and wrote reviews,
press releases and direct mails. They toured the
building, met Tron staff and organised front-of-house
activities for one of our Youth Theatre shows. It has
been an enjoyable and educational experience for all
involved.

Following on from the success of this scheme, Tron Participation would like to invite new pupils to apply to become an Ambassador for the 2013/14 academic
year.

• Do you have an active tumblr, wordpress, Twitter
or Facebook account?
• Do you like to share your thoughts and opinions
with others?
• Would you like to find out how a venue like the
Tron Theatre functions?

The scheme is open to school pupils S3-S6 who are
passionate about theatre and who are able to work as
part of team. We are looking for people who are
willing to attend a variety of theatre productions at
the Tron and who love to use social media to talk
about what they’re up to.

If this sounds like you, contact Deborah McArthur on
deborah.mcarthur@tron.co.uk for further details and
an Ambassador application pack. Deadline for applications: 3pm on Fri 6th Sept 2013
There will be an Ambassadors recruitment workshop w/c 9th September and Ambassadors will be
appointed w/c 16th September 2013.

Tron Ambassadors Scheme

The submissions deadline for the Tron Ambassadors scheme is tomorrow at 3pm. Be sure not to miss out. If you missed the information here it is again.

Tron Ambassadors scheme will give pupils the chance to be behind the scenes working alongside the Participation and Press/Marketing team at the Tron Theatre. It will enable pupils to make a deeper connection with the Tron Theatre and gain a better understanding of the industry.

Why:
Tron Participation would like to give pupils the opportunity to engage with the theatre industry from a different angle. We supply participatory classes in writing, performance and theatre making as well as set and costume design but what about behind the scenes? What about a department, such as Press and Marketing, who are vital in making sure a show has an audience?

What:
Ambassadors will attend ‘meet and greet’ session where they will meet the cast and creative team and then sit in on a ‘read through’. A read through is the first time the cast and creative team read through the play. Ambassadors will work at a press night, attend the reception after the show and be able to speak with industry professionals. Tron Participation will equip Ambassadors with the skills to be able to critique and review theatre through a theatre reviewing workshop. This will enable Ambassadors to review performances seen at the Tron. Ambassadors will blog about their experience and these blogs will be posted on the Tron Participation Glow group as well as the Tron Theatre website. Ambassadors will tell others about shows they have seen via social media platforms and become a steering group for future shows.

How:
The Ambassadors scheme will take six pupils from September 2012-April 2013. To be involved in the Ambassadors scheme you must be committed to attending all scheduled activities. Places are limited and so we ask only dedicated pupils to apply. Interested pupils should write about a piece of music, film or show you have recently seen. It should be no more than one side of A4 and can be written in any form you like.

When:
To be considered for an Ambassadors place you must submit your piece of writing by 3pm on Friday 7th Sept 2012 to deborah.mcarthur@tron.co.uk

CAGED

Directed by Gill Robertson
Presented by Catherine Wheels
Thursday the 28th – Saturday 30th April 10.30am, 1.30pm and 7.45pm at the Tron Theatre

Beauty and the beast will never get on.
He licks his hands, stands on the toilet and runs through the woods.
She carries a hankie, never gets mud on her shoes and always remembers to send a thank-you note.
So how come, when she sees him run like that,
when he brings down a deer, when they sit at night just watching the stars, how come her heart starts to spin?
Beauty and the Beast will never get on. Will they?

Caged is a story about two people trapped together and finding more freedom than they ever imagined.

Caged looks at the themes of:

  • Changing ideas of ‘beauty’ – in history, art, fashion, your local area or in the media
  • Persecution and isolation – finding real life links to the Beast character in society today, people in the past or in other works of fiction.
  • Changing tales – focusing on the original French tale and the different adaptations throughout the years. Helping pupils to consider what each new voice was trying to tell us and gaining a more rounded picture of the issues that arise.
  • True love and heartbreak – some of our most powerful stories from the classics to modern day soap operas have sparked into life because of love or loss. What different things have people or characters been willing to risk just to get what they desire?

Caged will develop self awareness by encouraging pupils to explore relationships and to consider how they relate to others. It will also help to develop more informed, ethical views of complex issues and see the importance of respecting other people’s needs and beliefs. It is suitable for everyone aged 8 years and above.

Within the Curriculum for Excellence, Caged will link to key area of – Literacy, Health and Wellbeing and Skills for life. And it also has secondary school subject links to Drama, English, PSE, History, Modern Studies, Art and RME
