The Tron has been a familiar landmark in Glasgow’s Merchant City area for centuries and a popular cultural venue for over twenty years. The theatre is situated at 63 Trongate, just a few yards from Glasgow Cross, and is easily identified by the unmistakable 16th Century church steeple.
Following completion of a £5 million redevelopment in 1999, the Tron has emerged as a stunning collection of historical buildings juxtaposed with stylish new spaces designed by leading Scottish Architects RMJM. With an enviable array of conference, meeting and entertaining spaces the Tron is the perfect venue for corporate events, conferences and seminars.
The Tron Theatre Company is currently under the artistic leadership of Andy Arnold. We aim to present the people of Glasgow and the West of Scotland with outstanding professional productions of the finest new writing of the last ten years, with an emphasis on world, UK and Scottish premieres.
The Tron is also an established receiving theatre on the small-middle scale, as well as a major venue for many of Glasgow’s festivals including Celtic Connections, Glasgow International Jazz Festival, Glasgow International Comedy Festival, the Merchant City Festival and Glasgay!
From its origins as a kirk in 1529, through five centuries of worship, creativity and imagination, the Tron continues to flourish. In the recent overhaul of Scottish arts funding the Tron was delighted to learn that it was awarded Foundation level Funding. This level of support has secured the Tron’s future as a leading player in Scotland’s cultural landscape, ensuring the continuation of its commitment to produce and present inspiring and innovative theatre.
