{"id":783,"date":"2012-10-18T19:16:01","date_gmt":"2012-10-18T19:16:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/glowblogs\/STEMcentralinmotion\/?p=783"},"modified":"2012-10-18T21:54:49","modified_gmt":"2012-10-18T21:54:49","slug":"pbs-design-squad","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/glowblogs\/STEMcentralinmotion\/2012\/10\/18\/pbs-design-squad\/","title":{"rendered":"PBS Design Squad"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last year I used some of the resources from <a href=\"http:\/\/pbskids.org\/designsquad\/build\/\">PBS Design Squad<\/a> with my primary 6 science and engineering club. \u00a0On the website there \u00a0is a whole section of resources aimed at <a href=\"http:\/\/pbskids.org\/designsquad\/parentseducators\/\">parents and educators<\/a>. \u00a0The resource I used was a unit called, &#8216;On the moon&#8217; and we worked on a number of challenges which included creating a &#8216;lander&#8217; in which the learners, working in groups, had to try out different ideas for shock absorption. \u00a0These resources are obviously not tied directly to our curriculum but are very useful for science and engineering clubs and would give some ideas for interdisciplinary challenges that could be the culmination of design technology and science departments working on curriculum knowledge and skills and could create opportunities \u00a0for application.
