FIRST<\/em><\/strong>\u00ae<\/sup><\/strong> LEGO\u00ae<\/sup> League Cargo Connect Scottish Final<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

23 teams of young people from around Scotland and one team from Norway met at the FIRST<\/em>\u00ae<\/sup> LEGO\u00ae<\/sup> League Challenge Scottish Final. The STEM Troopers from McLaren High School were crowned the Scottish Champions & went on to compete at the International Finals in Brazil where they were awarded 3rd<\/sup> place in Robot Design.<\/p>\n

FIRST<\/em><\/strong>\u00ae<\/sup><\/strong> LEGO\u00ae<\/sup> League 2022 – 23<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

The new SUPERPOWERED<\/strong><\/a> season launched on 2 August. Teams will explore how energy is created, stored, distributed and consumed.\u00a0 Registrations for all the three divisions are now OPEN<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Tournaments will run from December 2022 \u2013 March 2023 to compete for places at the Great Britain final to be held in Harrogate on 22 April 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

First round of Funding applications for the FIRST<\/em>\u00ae<\/sup> LEGO\u00ae<\/sup> League Superpowered season<\/a> (Challenge, Explore and Discover) is now open to educational organisations, home school groups or youth groups.\u00a0 Closing date for applications is 11 September 22.<\/p>\n

Work by Education Scotland is underway with several local authorities to explore opportunities to align initiatives with growth deals and city deals with a focus on net zero and the CESAP.<\/p>\n

SSERC announced that 84 Nuffield<\/a> funded research placements are now confirmed for S5 pupils. The opportunity for future placements in colleges was discussed with placements needing to be confirmed by September 2022.<\/p>\n

Institute of Physics (IoP) are continuing to work with the Limit Less campaign<\/a> to promote better equity and inclusion in physics and ensure good quality professional learning in schools.<\/p>\n

All Systems Flow for Women Into STEM<\/strong><\/a> – as part of International Women Into Engineering Day this year, West College Scotland in partnership with Forth Valley College and Equate Scotland have launched the next phase of activity in their Women into STEM Project and will run until 31 March 23.<\/p>\n

North East School Pupils Shine in SuSTEMability Final<\/strong><\/a> – The SuSTEMability programme, now in its second year is spearheaded by North East Scotland College and sponsored by OPITO.\u00a0 Primary school pupils from across the North East have showcased their talents in a regional challenge designed to inspire the next generation to find solutions to environmental challenges.<\/p>\n

Scholarship Awards Energise Levenmouth Academy Pupils<\/strong><\/a> –<\/strong> Five Levenmouth Academy pupils have been given a boost to their future careers after being awarded scholarships by Shell UK.\u00a0 The pupils, currently on the Shell UK Girls into Energy course at Fife College\u2019s Levenmouth Campus, received the scholarship awards for their hard work and commitment to their studies.<\/p>\n

STEM Stars Shine in NESCOL Skills Challenge<\/strong><\/a> – the popular event, sponsored by Shell UK, brings teams together from schools across the region to take part in eight STEM challenges in the final round.\u00a0 The winners have been crowned in NESCOL\u2019s annual STEM skills competition for S2 pupils.<\/p>\n

Young learners design Environmentally Efficient Vehicles for a Sustainable Future<\/strong><\/a> – The Dundee Science Centre has collaborated with the Dundee Museum of Transport to inspire young learners to explore the future of sustainable transportation.<\/p>\n

Inverness School Win 2022 Global Underwater Hub Challenge<\/strong><\/a> – <\/strong>organised by the Global Underwater Hub and supported by the Smallpeice Trust, the final of the 2022 GUH STEM Challenge was held in Aberdeen on 15 & 16 June. Pupils from six schools across the UK travelled to the Granite City to compete in the final of the nationwide competition and Culloden Academy was named winners of the 2022 GUH STEM Challenge.<\/p>\n

Scottish Schools Wow Judges at STEM Project National Final<\/strong><\/a> – <\/strong>The Scottish National Final of the Industrial Cadets Bronze Project was held at Dynamic Earth on Tuesday 31st May. Pupils from across Scotland celebrated the completion of a 12-weeks long STEM competition.<\/p>\n

SSE Renewables announced as STEM Partner of Hydro Ness<\/strong><\/a> – <\/strong>SSE Renewables has been announced as the official STEM partner of the Hydro Ness visitor attraction and hydro scheme in Inverness.<\/p>\n

Tour of Britain 2022 brings new Online Resource to Aberdeenshire Schools<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 Tour of Britain will arrive in the North East of Scotland in September 22.\u00a0 Aberdeenshire schools have been given access to a set of new online resources dedicated to cycling with specific focus on STEM subjects.\u00a0 These online resources are being hosted on the GLOW platform.<\/p>\n

YESC Regional Celebration of STEM<\/strong><\/a> – 90 young people from both primary and secondary schools across Dundee, Fife, Angus and Perth & Kinross gathered at Dundee Science Centre to take part in SCDI\u2019s Young Engineers and Science Clubs (YESC) Regional Celebration of STEM in partnership with SHELL U.K. Limited.<\/p>\n

The Big Bang Challenge<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 Inspired by The Big Bang Fair, The Big Bang Challenge invites young people\u2019s creative ideas for creating a greener future.\u00a0 All students who enter will receive a downloadable certificate to print at home or in school.\u00a0 Entries will close on Monday 12 September 22.<\/p>\n

Faraday Challenge Days<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 Applications are now open for the 22 \/ 23 season of the IET Faraday Challenge.\u00a0 A cross curricular STEM activity designed for students aged 12 to13.<\/p>\n

UK CanSat Competition<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 Registrations for the 22\/23 are now open.\u00a0 The CanSat competition provides students with the opportunity to have practical experience working on a small-scale space project.\u00a0 Open to teams from any school or college in the UK and members must be over the age of 14 at the time of the competition.<\/p>\n

2022 Australian Virtual Astronaut (AVA) Challenge<\/strong><\/a> – Complete a 9-week STEM design sprint based on challenges facing NASA\u2019s Artemis and the Australian space industry.\u00a0 The challenge begins Monday 29 August, and the submission date is Friday 11 November.\u00a0 The challenge is open to non-Australian students.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
