{"id":218,"date":"2012-01-19T14:10:03","date_gmt":"2012-01-19T14:10:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/glowblogs\/STEMcentralinmotion\/?p=218"},"modified":"2012-02-22T10:28:02","modified_gmt":"2012-02-22T10:28:02","slug":"engineering-education-scheme-residential","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/glowblogs\/STEMcentralinmotion\/2012\/01\/19\/engineering-education-scheme-residential\/","title":{"rendered":"Engineering Education Scheme Residential"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/glowblogs\/eslb\/files\/2012\/01\/ees.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" title=\"ees\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/glowblogs\/eslb\/files\/2012\/01\/ees.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"279\" height=\"276\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Last week I was invited along to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.etrust.org.uk\/eese.cfm\">Engineering Education Scheme <\/a>(run by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.etrust.org.uk\/\">EDT<\/a>), Residential Workshop at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.strath.ac.uk\/eee\/\">University of Strathclyde<\/a>. At the residential S5\/6\u00a0learners from around 15 schools across Scotland were brought together, along with engineers, teachers and engineering support from the University in a supportive environment in order to design prototype solutions to the industrial problem set by\u00a0a company.<\/p>\n<p>The Engineering Education Scheme in England &amp; Scotland is an EDT Programme which links teams of four\u00a0 S5\/S6\u00a0learners and their teachers with local companies to work on real, scientific, engineering and technological problems.<\/p>\n<p>The scheme provides\u00a0learners with an in-depth experience in science, engineering and technology that will enable them to make an informed decision about their future studies and career.<\/p>\n<p>This will be achieved by giving the learners, in a 6 month programme;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Hands-on work experience as part of a team<\/li>\n<li>Experience of problem solving, working on a project that is relevant to a local company<\/li>\n<li>Use of a university\u2019s engineering workshops to develop, build and test solutions to the problem<\/li>\n<li>Professional skills lectures on Communications (written, verbal and visual) and Project Management<\/li>\n<li>The opportunity to develop technical skills and see school physics, chemistry, technology etc applied in an industrial environment<\/li>\n<li>An opportunity to meet professional and graduate engineers, scientists and technologists<\/li>\n<li>Experience in presenting their solution, in a formal verbal presentation and formal written technical report, to a panel of senior professional engineers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>During the six-month project phase,\u00a0learners are encouraged to show industrial enterprise, creativity and innovation whilst gaining extensive experience of problem-solving, team-working and project management.\u00a0Key life skills are developed within the context of the world of work.<\/p>\n<p>Personal development education realised through work related learning is at the core of this high quality educational enrichment scheme. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.etrust.org.uk\/eese\/apply_now.cfm\">Find out how your school can get involved\u00a0<\/a>in the project.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last week I was invited along to the Engineering Education Scheme (run by EDT), Residential Workshop at the University of Strathclyde.
