The Sustainable Learning Partnership<\/a>, in association with The Crown Estate<\/a>, has produced an interdisciplinary learning and teaching resource \u2013 the first in a planned series \u2013 \u00a0founded upon the principles and practices of 21st Century Learning<\/strong> and designed to help young learners prepare for life and active participation in a global society that is safe, just and sustainable.<\/p>\n

The Clean Energy from the Sea<\/strong> project is being piloted in Scottish secondary schools<\/a> in Orkney, Thurso,\u00a0Wick and Midlothian.<\/p>\n

The project introduces pupils to the offshore renewables industry and the significant employment opportunities which are being created. Clean Energy from the Sea<\/strong> provides learning opportunities which allows them to make a connection between offshore renewables and their own studies in subjects such as geography, physics, and modern studies and also to explore three interlinked themes:<\/p>\n

  1. Why the future of human society depends upon secure energy<\/strong> supplies to meet our essential energy demands<\/li>\n
  2. Why the only safe and sustainable form of energy for the future is clean,\u00a0<\/strong>renewable\u00a0energy<\/li>\n
  3. Why the oceans and\u00a0seas<\/strong> are potentially a vast source of clean, renewable energy, presenting great technical challenges but enormous economic, social and environmental benefits.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
