PRESS RELEASE: The National Parent Forum of Scotland welcomes the Children and Young People Bill
The National Parent Forum of Scotland continues to support and welcome the principles of the Children and Young People Bill. We support the principle of having the highest possible ambitions for the health and wellbeing of Scotland’s children. We support the principle of professional bodies working together around the needs of children. We support the role of the Children’s Commissioner and the principle of upholding children’s rights. We support the move from 475 to 600 hours of ante and pre school care and education. We also support the principle of the Named Person as long as it does not supersede the position, rights and responsibilities of parents.
The National Parent Forum made a submission to the consultation on the Bill (http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Resource/0040/00406497.pdf). We have regularly discussed the Children and Young People Bill and have sought information from the Scottish Government about the Bill. Details about implementation of the Bill’s principles will emerge through the guidance to the Bill, once the legislative process is complete. We will scrutinise these details.
