Technical<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

You need somewhere to host your podcast, a Glow Blog.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can find out how to set up a blog on the Glow Blog Help<\/a> blog.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At a minimum you need to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  1. Create a blog<\/a> (or use an existing one)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Add Users<\/a> if you want anyone else to be able to upload audio.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Make your blog public<\/a>, so that people can listen to your podcast episodes.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    You need a computer and software to record audio. A microphone will help. You need an internet connected computer to publish your episodes<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    There are many applications that will allow to record and edit audio, one of the most popular is Audacity<\/a> which will run on Windows, Mac and Linux computers.  Garageband is popular on Apple computers and iPads. There are also many mobile tools that will let you record on the move. The audio recorded can be transferred to a computer for further editing (if needed) and publishing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Note: to export mp3 files from audacity you need to have the LAME MP3 Encode<\/a> installed. If Audacity is already installed on your computer this should have already been done.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    It is very easy to publish a podcast episode using Glow Blogs from a mobile device. This screencast shows how to  with Voice Memos on an iPad.  You can do exactly the same on an iPhone and other mobile devices will have similar workflows.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

    There are three main aspects of podcasting and creating a podcast episode.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    2. Producing<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    3. Publishing<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      Planning a Podcast Episode<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

      Planning a podcast is similar to planning any presentation by an individual and group and presents the same sort of opportunities for learning.  Different teachers, classes and learners will approach this in different ways. It is a great opportunity for more or less formal co-operative learning. At the end of this phase you will want to have a script or scripts. This does not need<\/em> to be read, often talking on a podcast sounds more natural than reading out a text.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Producing a Podcast<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

      After you have ideas for you content you need to record and edit this content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      This can be a very simple process, one person records their voice, or it can be more complex. Podcasts can have a collection of segments, dialogs, news items etc. They can include sound effects and music. <\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Publishing a Podcast Episode<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

      All you need to do is upload and embed your mp3 file to a blog post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Listening to a podcast<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

      You may want to help potential listeners to listen to your podcast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      You can copy the Podcast Feed and add it to any podcast listening apps. Look for Add Show by URL, in the app of your choice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
