{"id":194,"date":"2013-06-20T17:11:51","date_gmt":"2013-06-20T17:11:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/glowblogs\/Game\/?p=194"},"modified":"2013-06-20T17:17:43","modified_gmt":"2013-06-20T17:17:43","slug":"young-people-display-olympic-spirit-the-2013-inspireaspire-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/glowblogs\/Game\/2013\/06\/20\/young-people-display-olympic-spirit-the-2013-inspireaspire-awards\/","title":{"rendered":"Young people display Olympic spirit:  The 2013 Inspire&gt;Aspire Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Some of the country\u2019s brightest young people visited Glasgow City Chambers to receive medals for their work on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gameonscotland.org\/yourgames\/programmes\/globalcitizens.asp\">Inspire-Aspire programme<\/a> from Olympic Gold Medallist rower, Katherine Grainger CBE, IOC member Sir Craig Reedie CBE and the Lord Provost of Glasgow Cllr Sadie Docherty.<\/p>\n<p>The Inspire-Aspire Awards programme reached 25,000 young people t<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/glowblogs\/public\/Game\/uploads\/sites\/2340\/2013\/06\/AspireInspire-274.jpg\"><\/a>his year by using the Olympic and Paralympic Games and the character qualities of Oly<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/glowblogs\/public\/Game\/uploads\/sites\/2340\/2013\/06\/AspireInspire-2741.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-196\" title=\"AspireInspire-274\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/glowblogs\/public\/Game\/uploads\/sites\/2340\/2013\/06\/AspireInspire-2741-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/glowblogs\/public\/Game\/uploads\/sites\/2340\/2013\/06\/AspireInspire-2741-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/glowblogs\/public\/Game\/uploads\/sites\/2340\/2013\/06\/AspireInspire-2741-1024x682.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>mpians to inspire young people to set personal goals and to develop future aspirations.<\/p>\n<p>Winning a joint-\u00a0Gold, 1<sup>st<\/sup> Level award at the event were Iona Robertson, Banff Academy\u00a0and Dornie Burnett from Inverurie Academy.<\/p>\n<p>Dornie\u00a0chose Nadia Elena Com\u0103neci as her inspirational figure as part of her work on the programme.\u00a0 Expressing her reasons for her chosen inspirational figure, Dornie said:<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<em>\u201cHow many future gymnasts did Nadia inspire? I don\u2019t know the exact number, but it is at least one, because she inspired me\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Before presenting the awards, Olympian Grainger told an enthralled audience that it takes commitment and courage to reach the top. She spoke about how it was sheer determination that had helped her finish the race at the London Olympics in 2012. Grainger expressed how important using the Olympic and Paralympic values in everyday life can be, not just in sport.<\/p>\n<p>Inspire-Aspire aims to help young people gain a better understanding of their own character qualities and values and inspire them to create a personal development plan.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Iona explained how much of an impact participating in Inspire-Aspire has had on her: <em>\u201cThe questions it asked me made me put my goals and targets into perspective.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Some of the country\u2019s brightest young people visited Glasgow City Chambers to receive medals for their work on the Inspire-Aspire programme from Olympic Gold Medallist rower, Katherine Grainger CBE, IOC member Sir Craig Reedie CBE and the Lord Provost of Glasgow Cllr Sadie Docherty.
